Welcome to the CHS Vientiane Worship Service Resources

We invite you to take time this Sunday, in families or very small groups of friends, to responsibly share space to worship God together.
If you are on your own, please be assured we are together in the Spirit and if you have needs, or just want to share concerns, please don't be afraid to reach out
and share these with the CHS community.  Contact details can be found on our church website at:  http://www.thechs.org/

Scripture Sentence

but the word of our God will endure for ever.”
                                     (Isaiah 40:8)

Collect
Almighty God,
you have made us for yourself
and our hearts are restless
till they find their rest in you.
Give us peace in your service
and in the world to come
the joy of seeing you face to face;
through Jesus Christ our Lord
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Come to the Sower of seeds,
Planter of hearts.
Come this morning/evening

away from the strangling weeds.
Come let your roots be strengthened
and your hearts flourish.
Come and worship God.

Prayer of Approach
God of grace and love,
We rely on Your love
extended to us in all ways and at all times,
extravagantly and with generosity.
We live day by day
knowing that Your care and concern is poured out for us
in Your provision for our needs
and beyond our imagining.
You entrust us with the gift of the good news of the Gospel
and invite us to be partners in the sharing of the message of grace.
Day by day we realise the many gifts lavished upon us.
We come to You to acknowledge and praise You
for all Your goodness to us.
Amen.

Opening Hymn of Praise
Bless the Lord O my soul (MP1259)

Bless the Lord, O my soul...
O my soul, worship His holy name.
Sing like never before, O my soul.
          I'll worship Your holy name.

1 The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning;
it’s time to sing Your song again.
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me,
let me be singing when the evening comes.
Bless the Lord,O my soul . . .
2 You’re rich in love and You’re slow to anger,
Your name is great and Your heart is kind.
For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing;
ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.
Bless the Lord,O my soul . . .
3 And on that day when my strength is failing,
the end draws near and my time has come,
still my soul will sing Your praise unending:
ten thousand years and then for evermore!

        Bless the Lord,O my soul . . .
        . . . I’ll worship Your holy name.
Yes, I’ll worship Your holy name.

Confession
Our heavenly Father
thank you that you love us and care for us all the time.
We know that this week we have not always lived the way you tell us.
We have done wrong things and not done all the good things we should have done.
Only you can save us,
so please forgive us
and help us to live as your friends.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Silence

Jesus died and rose again for us.
In humble penitence let us
accept his pardon and receive his peace.
Amen.

God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
from you alone come everlasting joy and peace.
Fill us with joy in your promises,
and send us out to be bearers of your peace;
through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Creed
We believe in God the Father,
Maker of all things.
We believe in his Son Jesus Christ,
Lord and Saviour of the world.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
giver of life and light.
We belong to the Church,
God’s family everywhere.
Amen.

Prayer for / with the Children
Dear Lord
We are sorry for when we have
opportunities to learn and don’t pay
attention.
Lord, help us to listen, help us to grow,
help us to live for you.

We are sorry that when we know what we
should do, we are afraid of what our friends
might say and don’t do it.
Lord, help us to listen, help us to grow,
help us to live for you.

We are sorry when we think that living for
you is too difficult and don’t do what we
know we should.
Lord, help us to listen, help us to grow,
help us to live for you.

We are sorry that so often we just allow
ourselves to get distracted by all the good
things we have – computer games, iPods,
friends and family, work, having fun – and
forget about living for you.
Lord, help us to listen, help us to grow,
help us to live for you.

We thank you that you go on loving us
despite our faults. We ask you to forgive us
and give us a fresh start today.
Lord, help us to listen, help us to grow,
help us to live for you.
Amen.

Sermon

Song
Great is Thy faithfulness (MP200)

1  Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
there is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not,
as Thou hast been Thou for ever wilt be.

          Great is Thy faithfulness,
          great is Thy faithfulness;
          morning by morning
          new mercies I see;
          all I have needed
         Thy hand hath provided –
great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

2  Summer and winter, and spring-time and harvest,
sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
join with all nature in manifold witness
to Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Great is Thy faithfulness . . .
3  Pardon for sin, and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Great is Thy faithfulness . . .

Offering
(Please do bear in mind that as long as we are still able to,
CHS is continuing to support various projects and people
in need and needs will likely increase during this time.
You may want to set aside some money in an envelope every Sunday
and bring these to church when we next meet back at ARDA.)

Dedication of our Offering
Gracious God,
when your kindness and generosity
dawned upon the world,
and you lavished your love upon us
in Jesus Christ our Saviour,
you called us to believe in you
and to devote ourselves to loving and serving you
and those whose lives you reach out to through us.
Now we bring our gifts to you,
and offer them, and our whole life,
with joy for your service; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Intercessions
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come into your presence
to acknowledge that you are the King of Kings
and the Lord of Lords.
You are a loving and merciful God.
You are the Alpha and the Omega,
the beginning and the end.
You are an awesome God,
you reign from eternity to eternity,
from power to power,
from glory to glory.
Your love endures forever,
your grace is sufficient for us,
your mercy is new every morning,
great is your faithfulness.
Heaven is your throne
and the earth is your footstool.
We give all glory, honour and praise back to you.

We thank you God
that you are the source of our lives.
In you we live, move and have our being.
We are nothing without you
but thank you for your grace
which saves us from the hand of the evil one
and put us right with you in Christ Jesus.
We are thankful for all that you have done for us.
And your promises to us are “yes and amen” through Jesus Christ our Lord,
as your Word says in 2nd Corinthians 1:20.

We pray for the people around the world today.
For those who are being affected by the pandemic virus, Covid19.
Lord may you hear our prayers
and heal those who are in pain and distress.
May you show them your love and protection,
so that they can know you and turn their hearts to you,
and accept Jesus as their lord and saviour, O Lord.
We know that Covid19 has disturbed the lives of people today,
even the churches around the world
but we stand together boldly and declare that you are powerful God.
We put our faith and trust in you O God.
You are our true shepherd
and you will continue to take good care of us each day.

We pray for people who are being affected by natural disasters
and don't have shelters to live in,
who have no proper food to eat,
no clean water to drink,
no clothes to wear to keep them warm,
no proper health facilities,
Lord you are a God who can bring in help and comfort to them.
You will provide ways so that other people can see and help.
You are a mighty God in whom we can find refuge
as Proverbs 18:10 tells us.
We thank you that you never leave us nor forsake us.
Your concern is upon your children.
You have never failed us but you keep loving and forgiving us each day.
How gracious you are to us O God.

Lord we also remember the families in Papua New Guinea,
who are now facing marriage problems/domestic violence,
where parents are being separated
and some kids have no place to live,
no proper education for them
They are being neglected
and have turned to get involved in crime.
There is no love for them, nor proper discipline and guidance.
They have to face a lot of issues in their daily lives.
Women and girls are being abused
by partners, husbands or other men.
There is no freedom for them.
Lord, hear our prayers.
Let your power and righteousness rule in their lives,
let the fear of the Lord teach them the way
and correct their mindset and their wrong attitudes,
in order that they come to know
that you are a God that does not tolerate this kind of behaviour.
Your righteousness and your ways are higher than ours.
Teach them your ways
so that they can follow your right path
that leads to peace and harmony.
Let your will be done in their lives.

We also pray for the members/families of C.H.S.
We pray for your protection upon every person;
for good health and a safe environment.
As Isaiah 54:17 reminds us: “No weapon forged against us will prevail”
in Jesus’ mighty name.
Let the blood of Jesus cover us
and keep us safe at all times
in Jesus’ name we pray
and we all agree and say “amen”.
Amen

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

Closing Song
New Doxology

1- Praise God from Whom all blessings flow
Praise Him, all creatures here below
Praise Him above, ye heavenly hosts
Praise Father, Son and Ho- ly Ghost

2- Let earth and heavenly saints proclaim
The power and might of His great Name
Let us exalt on bended knee
Praise God, the Holy Tri- ni- ty

Praise God, praise God, praise God, Who saved my soul
Praise God, praise God, praise God from Whom all bless- ings flow

3- Praise to the King, His throne transcends
His crown and Kingdom never end
Now and throughout eternity
praise the One Who died …. for …. me

Prayer of Blessing and Sending
May God’s living
be sown within your soul.
May his life fill you with goodness
and his love bear fruit
in you and those you meet.
And may you know fulfilment
in the growing,
in the gleaning,
in the gathering,
in the freshness,
in the flavour,
in the fullness,
in the trying,
in the taking,
in the tasting
of the life-giving Christ
today and always.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord,
in the name of Christ.
Amen
