Scripture Sentence
"The Lord has told you mortals what is good, and what it is that the Lord requires of you: only to act justly, to love loyalty, to walk humbly with your God.
                                                    (Micah 6: 8)

The Collect
Almighty God,
your Son Jesus Christ
is the way, the truth, and the life.
Give us grace to love one another
and walk in the way of his commandments,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Call to Worship

Leader: Dear friends,
we gather in the name
of the God of love,
we gather in the presence
of the God of love.

All: So let us worship the God of love.

Leader: Dear friends,
we gather as children of the God of love,
we gather as sisters and brothers.

All: So let us learn to love one another.

Amen

Opening Hymn of Praise

The Lord is King! (MP656)

1  The Lord is King! lift up thy voice,
    O earth, and all ye heavens rejoice;
from world to world the joy shall ring,
    ‘The Lord omnipotent is King!’

2  The Lord is King! who then shall dare
resist His will, distrust His care,
or murmur at His wise decrees,
    or doubt His royal promises?

3  The Lord is King! Child of the dust,
    the Judge of all the earth is just;
holy and true are all His ways:
let every creature speak His praise.

4  He reigns! ye saints, exalt your strains;
    your God is King, your Father reigns;
and He is at the Father’s side,
the man of love, the crucified.

5  One Lord, one empire, all secures;
He reigns, and life and death are yours,
through earth and heaven one song shall
ring,
    ‘The Lord omnipotent is King!

Confession

Our heavenly Father
thank you that you love us
and care for us all the time.
We know that this week
we have not always lived the way you tell us.
We have done wrong things
and not done all the good things we should have done.
Only you can save us,
so please forgive us
and help us to live as your friends.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen

Silence

As we focus our minds,
it is easy for our minds to shoot off
in so many directions.
We find it hard to slow down,
to remove all the clutter
and concentrate on You, Lord.
In the stillness of this place,
this time,
take from us the strain and stress
as we feel ourselves rest in Your eternal love,
in the everlasting arms.

Then quietly,
the small beginnings of praise well up
as we remember
what we have in Jesus Christ.
That we have one who is with us,
who guides and strengthens us.
Who holds us through every storm of life
who leads us to everlasting life.

We confess that sometimes the storms we endure
are of our own making.
A foolish word,
a thoughtless comment,
a misguided action,
a quick judgement.
Then we have to live with the consequences,
and the guilt.
Take all that stress from us too
and replace it with Your forgiveness and peace.

Heavenly Father,
in Your hands we are safe and secure –
we rejoice in Your eternal love
and all sufficient grace.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Creed

We believe in God the Father,
Maker of all things.
We believe in his Son Jesus Christ,
Lord and Saviour of the world.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
giver of life and light.
We belong to the Church,
God’s family everywhere.
Amen

Bible Readings

Psalm: Psalm 22:25-31
First Reading: Acts 8:26-40
Second Reading: 1 John 4:7-21
Gospel: John 15:1-8

Song

Father God, I wonder (JP337)

Father God, I wonder

how I managed to exist

without the knowledge

of Your parenthood

and Your loving care.

But now I am Your child,

I am adopted in Your family,

and I can never be alone

’cause, Father God,

You’re there beside me.

I will sing Your praises,

I will sing Your praises,

I will sing Your praises for evermore.

I will sing Your praises,

I will sing Your praises,

I will sing Your praises for evermore.

Prayer with and for the children
  1. God of planting and harvest,
    growth and nourishment,
we see your creative presence everywhere and in everything.
The natural world gives us so much
    to enjoy and use physically,
to ponder and reflect on emotionally and spiritually.

We see that everything is connected:
    soil, sun and rainfall;
chemistry and biology bringing seed to harvest; engineering and creativity making products
    fit for plate or glass.

Connections run deep within your created world, and we, your people, are in the middle of it all, linked to each other—entwined with nature herself. Forever remind us of how you call us to not just be consumers of your world’s products, but stewards too of all that is beautiful and special.

    Living God,
let your natural world thrive into eternity,
a reminder for all people of your divine glory.

Amen

Sermon

Song

You are the vine (MP792)

You are the vine,
we are the branches,
keep us abiding in You.
You are the vine,
we are the branches,
keep us abiding in You.

Then we’ll grow in Your love,
then we’ll go in Your name,
that the world will surely know
that You have power to heal and to save.

You are the vine,
we are the branches,
keep us abiding in You.

Prayer of Dedication

May we find the connection
that brings life to us all,
and dedicate ourselves
towards that new life,
bound up in each other:
dedicated to the language that unites, the hopes that bring adventures,
and the word that is shared between us all.

True vine,
may we be the branches of every possibility,
that speak of,
and lives for,
your kingdom.

Amen

Prayers of  Intercession

Jesus Christ, the true vine,
in our need
we come to You,
in weakness,
needing Your strength
for we too easily become dry and lifeless
without Your life-giving spirit.

Jesus Christ, the true vine,
teach us to remain in You
and so to find Your life flowing in us
giving strength and vigour to our discipleship.

And as we come closer to You
our lives are drawn closer to others.
Our minds turn to images of violence we have seen on the news in places of fear and terror,
to where people are at loggerheads,
over race, religion, land, power.

Our thoughts turn to Christians
living with persecution
who face danger, simply for being linked to You.

Father, prune back all that stands in the way of peace.

Our thoughts turn to people
in leadership and power
– who have decisions to make over the economy and people whose jobs and livelihood will be affected.
We pray for this nation and the nations which we come from, and their leaders.
May changes and choices be shaped by the values of the kingdom.

We pray particularly for the nation of India and the many challenges its people face due to the Covid19 Pandemic. May the people of India know your compassion and mercy at this time. May available resources be directed where they are most needed, to heal those who are sick and may people who grieve be afforded the dignity to do so.

We remember too the nation of Israel and those injured in the tragedy at the religious festival there. We pray for their healing and for you to draw near to the loved ones of those who lost their lives. May you listen to their anguished cries and answer them that they would sense your hesed steadfast loving kindness, even in the midst of such sorrow.

On our hearts
are people in need in our church and community.
Wherever hearts are breaking …
bodies are failing …
minds are confused …
families are ruptured …
Lord, come with Your help and healing.

We continue to pray for your comfort and healing for Siddhartha Sahu's widow, Rosy and Aloke their son and daughter Suniti and their families.

We also pray for Biju Abraham and his family as they grieve their loss of Biju's father.

Here, too, as Your church gathered today,
we give thanks for the saints of the past
and the fruit they have borne in our community and beyond.
Like them, help us to remain in You
that we may be fruitful
and bring glory to Your name.
Through Jesus Christ, the true vine.
Amen

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

Amen

Closing Song

May the mind of Christ my Saviour (MP463)

1  May the mind of Christ my Saviour
live in me from day to day,
by His love and power controlling
all I do and say.

2  May the word of God dwell richly
in my heart from hour to hour,
so that all may see I triumph
only through His power.

3  May the peace of God my Father
rule my life in everything,
that I may be calm to comfort
sick and sorrowing.

4  May the love of Jesus fill me,
as the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing,
this is victory.

5  May I run the race before me,
strong and brave to face the foe,
looking only unto Jesus,
as I onward go.

6 May His beauty rest upon me,
as I seek the lost to win,
And may they forget the channel,
seeing only Him.

Prayer of Sending and Blessing
As part of the living vine,
let us go from here to bear fruit in the name of the true vine,
Jesus Christ, our Lord...
And the blessing of God Almighty,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit
be with us all,
now and always.
Amen

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord,
in the name of Christ.
Amen

Scripture Sentence
"Like a shepherd he will tend his flock, and with his arm keep them together."
                                                    (Isaiah 40: 11)

The Collect
God of peace,
who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus,
the great Shepherd of the sheep,
through the blood of an eternal covenant,
make us perfect in goodness
so that we may do your will;
and create in us what is pleasing to you;
through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Call to Worship
Listen! He is calling you by name.
Look! That is the best path to follow.
Can you smell the fresh grass in that meadow?
Taste, and see how good it is.
Feel how soft it is to lie on.
With God as our shepherd, we have everything we need.
Amen

Opening Hymn of Praise

Oh, the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vUhwyjdk8A&list=RD1vUhwyjdk8A&start_radio=1&t=7s

1. Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me

2. Underneath me, all around me
Is the current of his love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To your glorious rest above

3. Oh, the deep, deep love of Jesus
'Tis heaven of heavens to me
And it lifts me up to glory
For it lifts me up to thee

4. Oh, the deep, deep love of Jesus
Spread his praise from shore to shore
How he loves us, ever loves us,
Changes never, nevermore.

Silence
Gracious God,
as we come before you,
we know that we may
stray from the flock,
or fail to follow your guidance;
we may falter on our path
towards your promised kingdom,
but we live and rejoice in the
knowledge that your forgiveness
is given freely, and that it is
by the gift of your grace that
our lives remain blessed.

Loving God,
as we gather together,
we do so in hope and prayer
that you continue to shine your light of love
on and into our lives, and
the lives of all your beloved children;
that your Spirit will continue to guide
us through our journey towards you;
and that we will remember always,
that our saviour laid down his life for
the love of us,
that me might live.

Amen

Bible Readings

Verse 1: Before I spoke a word, You were singing over me
You have been so, so good to me
Before I took a breath, you breathed your life in me
You have been so, so kind to me

Chorus: Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights till I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it, and I don't deserve it, still you give yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Verse 2: When I was your foe, still your love fought for me,
You have been so, so good to me
When I felt no worth, you paid it all for me
You have been so so kind to me.

Chorus: Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights till I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it, I don't deserve it, still you give yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Bridge: There is no shadow, you won't light up,
Mountain, you won't climb up, coming after me
There is no wall, you won't break down,
Lie you won't tear down, coming after me. (Repeat)

When I was hungry you fed me, when I was thirsty you gave me water.
The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want.

Prayer with and for the children

Gracious God,

the one who has called us

each by name,

the one who knows

our hopes and our fears,

the one who loves us

no matter what happens,

the one who cares for us

more than we can ever know,

the one who is our good shepherd

who looks after us every day.

Thank you for being in our lives,

for guiding us and leading us

towards you and each other,

for showing us how to love,

how to care for all your people

and your creation.

Help us to hear your voice

as it calls out to us to be

more forgiving,

more generous,

more conscious of the

environmental problems we face,

and guide us towards a better

world where we can all live

safely and peacefully together.

Amen

Sermon

Song
Great is thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Chorus
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see:
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow—
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Dedication of our Offering

Living God
accept these offerings we bring to You
in a whole variety of ways.
Grant that they may go where we can’t go,
that they may reach where we cannot reach,
that they may do what we cannot do.
Use them to strengthen Your Church
and advance Your kingdom
here where we are and far beyond
for Jesus’ sake.

Amen

Prayers of  Intercession

(Prepared by George Kabaso)

Father in the name of Jesus, we want to thank you for this day because this is the day that you have made that we may rejoice and be glad in it. Although we are not able to meet in person due to the Covid 19 situation that has suddenly changed here in Laos over the last few days, we’re still grateful for the fact that we are able to have fellowship within our homes and remain connected to you.

Thank you for today’s word. We thank you that your word is life to those who find it and health to all their flesh. Even as we’ve received it this morning, we’ve received life, strength and hope. It’s our prayer that you may help us not only to be hearers but doers also in Jesus name.

We surrender Laos to you this morning. Your word tells us to pray for the peace and prosperity of the city we’ve been exiled in because from its peace, shall come our peace. We commit the leaders of this country to you that you may give them the grace to rule this country in wisdom. We surrender the Covid 19 situation to you and pray and ask for your mercy and intervention. We pray that you may grant those in authority the wisdom to deal with the situation and to make wise decisions that will benefit the country as a whole. We pray for those who’ve tested positive and ask that your healing power may touch them and meet them at their very point of need. We also pray for those sick among us that your healing power may touch them too. We surrender the vaccine role out here in Laos and other parts of the world that you alone may grant those in charge the wisdom to ensure that provision is made for those most in need.

We remember Aloke and Biju and their families, both of whom lost their fathers this past week; we pray that the gracious Holy Spirit may comfort them as they go through this trying time. We also remember other families that have lost their loved ones this year that your comfort, peace, hope and assurance may fill their hearts.

We remember CHS church and remain grateful to you for what you are doing in the church. We commit Pastor Tony and the family to you that even as they continue their preparations to move back to Scotland, that it may go well with them. We pray committing the selection process for the new Pastor for CHS. We thank you because you are the shepherd of CHS and pray that you may grant the selection committee leadership, direction and discernment in the entire process. We pray committing the Pastor and family who you desire to take up the role that you may continue ministering to them and preparing their hearts for this assignment. We pray for the church and ask that you may cause the church to grow both spiritually and numerically. Help us gracious God to desire more of your word, our time in prayer and grace to reach out to those in our work circles and share of the love and goodness of God that more and more may come to your saving knowledge. We commit other church ministries such as to those in prisons to you dear God that you may continue causing the church to be your hands and feet even as we reach out to others.

We continue praying for the peace of Myanmar in the region. We pray for your peace and normality to return in the country. We also remember other countries that have internal and external conflicts and pray for their peace too.

We commit the rescue operations that are currently underway in Indonesia where the submarine has been missing for days now. We pray for the success of the operation and that all 53 crew members may be rescued before the oxygen levels which are at critical levels run out.

Even as we start this new week, we pray that you may go before and after us. We declare that our boundary lines have fallen for us in pleasant places and we have a delightful inheritance. We declare that we are strong, healthy, favoured, people of purpose, covered by the blood of Jesus and are under the shadow of your wings. We declare that we are people of excellence and our children are strong and mighty in the land. All this we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

Amen

Lord’s Prayer

now and for ever.

Amen
