Welcome to the CHS Vientiane Worship Service Resources

We invite you to take time this Sunday, in families or very small groups of friends, to responsibly share space to worship God together.
If you are on your own, please be assured we are together in the Spirit and if you have needs, or just want to share concerns, please don't be afraid to reach out
and share these with the CHS community.  Contact details can be found on our church website at:  http://www.thechs.org/

who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Opening Hymn of Praise
MP 1221 Praise is Rising
1        Praise is rising,
          eyes are turning to You,
          we turn to You.
          Hope is rising,
          hearts are yearning for You,
          we long for You.
          ’Cause when we see You,
          we find strength to face the day;
          in Your presence
all our fears are washed away, washed away.
                    Hosanna, hosanna,
You are the God who saves us,
                    worthy of all our praises.
                    Hosanna, hosanna,
come have Your way among us,
we welcome You here Lord Jesus.

2        Hear the sound of hearts
          returning to You,
          we turn to You.
          In Your kingdom
          broken lives
          are made new,
          You make us new.
          ’Cause when we see You,
          we find strength to face the day;
          in Your presence
all our fears are washed away, washed away.
                    Hosanna, hosanna . . .
                    Hosanna, hosanna.
                    Hosanna, hosanna.

Confession
Our heavenly Father
thank you that you love us and care for us all the time.
We know that this week we have not always lived the way you tell us.
We have done wrong things and not done all the good things we should have done.
Only you can save us,
so please forgive us
and help us to live as your friends.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.

silence

God, in every other
If we’re honest,
We see ourselves more clearly –
Sometimes our warmth,
Our welcome, our hospitality, our inclusion
And for this we give You thanks, loving God

God, in every other,
If we’re honest,
We sometimes see ourselves more clearly –
Our coldness
Toward those different
And in this we confess our sin,
Our sense of superiority, Our desire for monochrome identity, those like us
God

Help us accept Your welcome of us
And of every other,
In one shared body, as forgiven, baptised children
Amen.

“If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just
and will forgive us our sins
and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
                                                            (1 John 1: 9)

Creed
We believe in God the Father,
Maker of all things.
We believe in his Son Jesus Christ,
Lord and Saviour of the world.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
giver of life and light.
We belong to the Church,
God’s family everywhere.
Amen.

Children’s Song
MP 1019 You are my All in All

1       You are my strength when I am weak,
You are the treasure that I seek,
          You are my all in all;
seeking You as a precious jewel,
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool,
You are my all in all.
                    Jesus, Lamb of God,
                    worthy is Your name;
                    Jesus, Lamb of God,
                    worthy is Your name.

2        Taking my sin, my cross, my shame,
rising again, I bless Your name,
          You are my all in all;
when I fall down You pick me up,
when I am dry You fill my cup,
You are my all in all.
                    Jesus, Lamb of God . . .

Prayer for / with the Children
Hearing God,
Help us hear what You hear
Speaking God,
Help us receive what You say
Eye-opening God,
Help us see what You see

God who cares
Watching every sparrow
Counts every hair on every head
Names every refugee in every camp
We gather knowing You are
Watching us
Counting us
Naming us
With that care, aware of Your attention
Precious to you
We express our thanks
in Jesus’ precious name
Amen.

Sermon

*Bonus feature: here is the midweek sermon from Bishop Rennis Ponniah
of the Anglican Diocese of Singapore:

Song
Cornerstone

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus name
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus name

     Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
     Lord of all

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil

     Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
     Lord of all

He is Lord, Lord of all

     Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
     Lord of all (X2)

When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throne

[Interlude]

     Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
     Lord of all (X3)

Offering
(Please do bear in mind that as long as we are still able to,
CHS is continuing to support various projects and people
in need and needs will likely increase during this time.
You may want to set aside some money in an envelope every Sunday
and bring these to church when we next meet back at ARDA.)

Dedication of our Offering
Lord our God,
we acknowledge that
you are our Father,
we are your children,
our neighbours
are those for whom Christ died to set free,
To their service and to your glory
we dedicate ourselves,
our hearts and minds, our wills and works.
Strengthen our resolve
to stand fast in your faith,
to seek the help of your Holy Spirit,
and to work willingly for your perfect kingdom,
in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Intercessions And Thanksgiving
Heavenly Father,
thank you for your presence with your people.
The Lord Jesus has promised to be with us forever.
During these difficult and for many, trying times,
we give you praise and thanks that we are not alone.
Your Holy Spirit is with us.

Thank you that despite the suffering that your people face,
because of Jesus, we are not alone.
Thank you that we do not have to be afraid
of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.
Rather, help us to be afraid of the One
who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
In Matthew you tell us “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
So, don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows”

Thank you that we are valuable to you and that you are
working your purposes out even if we cannot see or understand
what you are doing.
Lord, protect your people from doubting your faithfulness and goodness.
Satan would love for your people to turn away from you.
Protect all those in Laos who name Christ as Lord and Saviour.
Help them to be bold in proclaiming the good news about Jesus.

Lord, we have not loved you with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength this week.
For this we beg your forgiveness.
Thank you for Jesus’ death that has paid the price for all our sin.
Help us to never think that we never sin and take your word seriously that says:
“If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”

Father, we pray that you may allow those who have had to leave
due to COVID to be able to return soon.
We praise you that there haven’t been many cases in Laos.
Thank you for hearing our prayers.
We thank you that life can get back to normal (sort of).
We ask that churches will soon be able to get back together in person.
May you continue to give the government a love for people
and a desire to protect its citizens.
May you help them to come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

We pray for the leaders around the world as they seek to battle COVID19.
Help them to humble themselves and turn to you and repent.
Give them wisdom and compassion so that they put people before politics or money.
Father, a lot of the world is angry, help them to seek you in their anger.
Father have mercy on those leaders who have been callous in their response
to the suffering of their people. Cause them to repent and beg your forgiveness.

Thank you for the way that you have been taking care of Tony and his family
during this time. Continue to protect them from Satan’s attempts to tear them down.
May you give Tony wisdom as he speaks the truth in love.
May you strengthen his heart with the reminder from your word this week
that those who proclaim the gospel will be persecuted
and those who will hurt him the most will be those closest to him.
For all of us, Lord, we ask that you remind us today of the fact
that to be yours means that we will be persecuted.
May your Spirit strengthen us to persevere to the end.

Father, we ask that you protect your people from racism.
May your Spirit teach us what it looks like and how to love all people equally.
Help the members of CHS to be inclusive as we interact with each other.
May we be a taste of heaven to those who visit us –
people from all nations worshiping God together in one accord.

There are many people hurting in CHS. Lord, you know them all.
Help Stephen to stay strong during this time of his grief.
May you be Corky and Maurice's source of comfort and joy as they too mourn.

Father, we don’t deserve to have you hear us.
Thank you that Jesus has died that we might have the privilege of
being able to bring our requests to you.
Thank you that you give us the Holy Spirit to enable us to be
at least part of the answer to our prayers.
In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

Closing Song
MP 522 O the deep, deep love of Jesus

1        O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
          Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free;
          rolling as a mighty ocean
          in its fulness over me.
          Underneath me, all around me,
          is the current of Thy love;
          leading onward, leading homeward,
          to my glorious rest above.

2        O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Spread His praise from shore to shore,
          how He loveth, ever loveth,
          changeth never, nevermore;
how He watches o’er His loved ones,
          died to call them all His own;
          how for them He intercedeth,
watches over them from the throne.

3        O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Love of every love the best:
’tis an ocean vast of blessing,
’tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
          ’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
and it lifts me up to glory,
for it lifts me up to Thee.

Prayer of Sending and Blessing
Sending
Leader: Valued and loved,
known and understood,
forgiven and free,

All: we go to serve God,
to take up our crosses,
to confront our fears.

Leader: We go with good news
stirring within our souls,
our hearts and minds,

All: and we shout it from the
rooftops and treetops!
May the love of the Father enfold us,
the wisdom of the Son enlighten us,
the fire of the Holy Spirit inflame us;
and may the blessing of God rest upon us
and abide with us, now and evermore.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord,
in the name of Christ.
Amen
