Church Service on Sunday, February 7th, 2021 Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany

 Welcome to the CHS Vientiane Worship Service Resources

We invite you to take time this Sunday, in families or very small groups of friends, to responsibly share space to worship God together.

If you are on your own, please be assured we are together in the Spirit and if you have needs, or just want to share concerns, please don't be afraid to reach out and share these with the CHS community.  Contact details can be found on our church website at:  http://www.thechs.org/

Scripture Sentence

"The Lord will give strength to his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace."

(Psalm 29:11)

The Collect

Merciful Lord,
grant to your faithful people pardon and peace,
that we may be cleansed from all our sins
and serve you with a quiet mind;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who is alive and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Amen

Approach

Lord God,

High in the heavens, yet kneeling at our feet,

Let us sing praises loudly, let us pray quietly,

Let us listen attentively, let us act presently.

Let our words praise You,

Let our actions praise You,

Living, loving, eternal God.

As we draw near to You, may we find that You

Already are on Your way to meet us,

And more than halfway.

Bridging sin-gulfs, breaking sin-walls,

Your sparkling, irresistible love wins through.

Let us praise Your Holy Name!

Opening Hymn of Praise

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven (MP560)

 1  Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
    to His feet thy tribute bring;
    ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
    who like thee His praise should sing?
        Praise Him! Praise Him!
        Praise Him! Praise Him!
    Praise the everlasting King.

2  Praise Him for His grace and favour
    to our fathers, in distress;
    praise Him still the same for ever,
    slow to chide, and swift to bless.
        Praise Him! Praise Him!
        Praise Him! Praise Him!
    Glorious in His faithfulness.

3  Father-like He tends and spares us;
    well our feeble frame He knows;
    in His hands He gently bears us,
    rescues us from all our foes.
        Praise Him! Praise Him!
        Praise Him! Praise Him!
    Widely as His mercy flows.

4  Angels, help us to adore Him;
    ye behold Him face to face;
    sun and moon, bow down before Him;
    dwellers all in time and space.
        Praise Him! Praise Him!
        Praise Him! Praise Him!
    Praise with us the God of grace.

Confession

Our heavenly Father
thank you that you love us
and care for us all the time.
We know that this week
we have not always lived the way you tell us.
We have done wrong things
and not done all the good things we should have done.
Only you can save us,
so please forgive us
and help us to live as your friends.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen

Silence

Petition

Searching God,

Into every dark place,

Into every hard heart,

Into every narrow mind,

Into every shut mouth,

Into every closed eye,

Come with healing light to open up

And reveal to us not only Who You are,

But what Your love might be,

In us, through us, or even despite us.

Forgive us for choosing bleakness instead of blessedness.

Into our wintry worlds let the smell of summer come;

Let this be, in our lives, God’s February,

Redolent of new life, new light, new beginning, new hope.

May God, in infinite mercy, shine healing light

Upon all your living, that the life you live

May be a life lived to God’s glory, each day, each night.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Creed

We believe in God the Father,
Maker of all things.
We believe in his Son Jesus Christ,
Lord and Saviour of the world.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
giver of life and light.
We belong to the Church,
God’s family everywhere.
Amen

Song

Blessèd be the name of the Lord (MP809)

1  Blessèd be the name of the Lord,

    blessèd be the name of the Lord,

    blessèd be the name of the Lord most high!

    Blessèd be the name of the Lord,

    blessèd be the name of the Lord,

    blessèd be the name of the Lord most high!

        The name of the Lord is a strong tower –

        the righteous run into it,

        and they are saved;

        the name of the Lord is a strong tower –

        the righteous run into it,

        and they are saved.

2  Glory to the name of the Lord,

    glory to the name of the Lord,

    glory to the name of the Lord most high!

    Glory to the name of the Lord,

    glory to the name of the Lord,

    glory to the name of the Lord most high!

        The name of the Lord . . .

3  Holy is the name of the Lord,

    holy is the name of the Lord,

    holy is the name of the Lord most high!

    Holy is the name of the Lord,

    holy is the name of the Lord,

    holy is the name of the Lord most high!

        The name of the Lord . . .

Song

Great is Thy faithfulness (MP200)

1  Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
there is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not,
as Thou hast been Thou for ever wilt be.
        Great is Thy faithfulness,
great is Thy faithfulness;
morning by morning
new mercies I see;
all I have needed
Thy hand hath provided –
great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

2  Summer and winter, and spring-time and harvest,
sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
join with all nature in manifold witness
to Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Great is Thy faithfulness . . .

3  Pardon for sin, and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Great is Thy faithfulness . . .

 Offering
(Please do bear in mind that as long as we are still able to,
CHS is continuing to support various projects and people in need
and needs will likely increase during this time.
You may want to set aside some money in an envelope
every Sunday and bring these to church when we next meet back at ARDA.)

Dedication of our Offering

Out of your providing, Lord,
we make this offering
brought from our daily living.
Sanctify your gift,
and bless the life from which it comes,
that with a cheerful spirit
and an ungrudging heart
we may be devoted to your service;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Prayers

Thanksgiving and Intercession
God of the gift of light,
In Your un-wearying love for us
Which brings us once more to see You face-to-face,
Help us live lives of gratitude and grace.
Thankful for what we receive, and what we are enabled to give;
Gracious in our thoughts, and words and actions
As we bring blessing to the lives around us.
We pray today for our homes, and the people we hold dear,
May they know peace and joy.
We pray today for the country of Laos and the countries we come from. We pray for their leaders, and all whose work
Shapes and guides our daily living
In politics, education, economics and business,
May those whose work falls in these spheres know wisdom and courage.
We pray today for our world, and its changing needs,
For health and healing;
For nourishment and generosity;
For shelter and compassion;
For laughter and love.
In the life and the work of Your Church,
And every community of faith where love is put in practice,
May we not trip over our theological skirts,
But get our hands dirty in the doing of good,
So that where we can choose to be anything
We choose to be kind.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

Amen

Song before Communion

We have a gospel to proclaim (MP728)

1  We have a gospel to proclaim,

    good news for men in all the earth;

    the gospel of a saviour’s name:

    we sing His glory, tell His worth.

2  Tell of His birth at Bethlehem,

    not in a royal house or hall

    but in a stable dark and dim:

    the Word made flesh, a light for all.

3  Tell of His death at Calvary,

    hated by those He came to save;

    in lonely suffering on the cross

    for all He loved, His life He gave.

4  Tell of that glorious Easter morn:

    empty the tomb, for He was free;

    He broke the power of death and hell

    that we might share His victory.

5  Tell of His reign at God’s right hand,

    by all creation glorified;

    He sends His Spirit on His Church

    to live for Him, the Lamb who died.

6  Now we rejoice to name Him king:

    Jesus is Lord of all the earth;

    this gospel-message we proclaim:

    we sing His glory, tell His worth.

Closing Song

Let all the world (MP404)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2J6qCh9Y_U

1  Let all the world in every corner sing,

    ‘My God and King!’

    The heavens are not too high;

    His praise may thither fly:

    the earth is not too low;

    His praises there may grow.

    Let all the world in every corner sing,

    ‘My God and King!’

2  Let all the world in every corner sing,

    ‘My God and King!’

    The Church with psalms must shout,

    no door can keep them out:

    but, above all, the heart

    must bear the longest part.

    Let all the world in every corner sing,

    ‘My God and King!’

Prayer of Sending and Blessing

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
May the Lord make His face to shine upon you,
And be gracious unto you.
May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.
And the blessing of God Almighty,
The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Be among you and remain with you,
Now and forever more.

Amen

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord,
in the name of Christ.
Amen
