“They will know that they have a prophet among them, whether they listen or whether in their rebelliousness they refuse to listen.” (Ezekiel 2: 5)
Approach to God
Surely God’s salvation is at hand for those who fear God,
Lighting of the Second Advent Candle (Faith)
1 Light of the world, You stepped down into darkness,
opened my eyes, let me see
beauty that made this heart adore You,
hope of a life spent with You.
So here I am to worship,
here I am to bow down,
here I am to say that You’re my God:
You’re altogether lovely,
altogether worthy,
altogether wonderful to me.
2 King of all days, O so highly exalted,
glorious in heaven above,
humbly You came to the earth You created,
all for love’s sake became poor.
So here I am to worship . . .
So here I am to worship . . .
And I’ll never know how much it cost
to see my sin upon that cross.
And I’ll never know how much it cost
to see my sin upon that cross.
So here I am to worship . . .
Confession
Our heavenly Father
thank you that you love us
and care for us all the time.
We know that this week
we have not always lived the way you tell us.
We have done wrong things
and not done all the good things we should have done.
Only you can save us,
so please forgive us
and help us to live as your friends.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen
In the name of Jesus Christ,
I declare to you
who have confessed your sin to God
that he of his love
freely forgives you
and absolves you of all your sin.
He offers you now
the grace and strength of his Holy Spirit.
Amen
Merciful God,
you have prepared for those who love you
such good things as pass human understanding.
Pour into our hearts such love towards you
that we, loving you above all things,
may obtain your promises,
which exceed all that we can desire;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 O come, O come, Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice, rejoice! Emmanuel
shall come to thee, O Israel.
2 O come, O come, Thou Lord of might,
who to Thy tribes, on Sinai’s height
in ancient times didst give the law
in cloud and majesty and awe.
Rejoice, rejoice . . .
3 O come, Thou rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny;
from depths of hell Thy people save,
and give them victory o’er the grave.
Rejoice, rejoice . . .
4 O come, Thou dayspring, come and cheer
our spirits by Thine advent here;
disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
and death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice, rejoice . . .
5 O come, Thou key of David, come
and open wide our heavenly home;
make safe the way that leads on high,
and close the path to misery.
Rejoice, rejoice . . .
Amen
1 On Jordan’s bank the Baptist’s cry
announces that the Lord is nigh;
come then and listen for he brings
glad tidings from the King of kings.
2 Then cleansed be every heart from sin;
make straight the way for God within;
prepare we in our hearts a home,
where such a mighty guest may come.
3 For You are our salvation, Lord,
our refuge and our great reward;
without Your grace we waste away,
like flowers that wither and decay.
5 To Him who left the throne of heaven
to save mankind, all praise be given;
to God the Father, voices raise,
and Holy Spirit, let us praise.
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Prayers
1 Hide me now under Your wings.
Cover me within Your mighty hand.
When the oceans rise and thunder roars,
I will soar with You above the storm.
Father, You are King over the flood;
I will be still and know You are God.
2 Find rest, my soul, in Christ alone.
Know His power in quietness and trust.
When the oceans rise . . .
