1 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
early in the morning our song shall rise to You;
Holy, holy, holy! – merciful and mighty,
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!
2 Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore You,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before You,
which was, and is, and evermore shall be.
3 Holy, holy, holy! – though the darkness hide You,
though the eye of sinful man Your glory may not see;
only You are holy, there is none beside You,
perfect in power, in love, and purity.
4 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
all Your works shall praise Your name, in earth, and sky, and sea:
Holy, holy, holy! – merciful and mighty,
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!
Our heavenly Father
thank you that you love us
and care for us all the time.
We know that this week
we have not always lived the way you tell us.
We have done wrong things
and not done all the good things we should have done.
Only you can save us,
so please forgive us
and help us to live as your friends.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Psalm: Psalm 29
First Reading: Isaiah 6:1-8
Second Reading: Romans 8:12-17
Gospel: John 3:1-17
Life giver,
you know us,
even before we are born,
we long to know you more.
Nature lover,
your creative love is present
in the air we breathe,
the water we drink,
the earth we walk upon,
the breeze which cools us,
we long to be aware of you.
Soul saver,
you call us to you,
to serve in the world
and to help people in need,
we long to be your disciples.
May we always answer
when you call
and may we be ready
to go wherever you send us.
So be it.
Amen
I Have Heard My People Cry.
All Who Dwell In Dark And Sin,
My Hand Will Save.
I Who Made The Stars Of Night,
I Will Make Their Darkness Bright.
Who Will Bear My Light To Them?
Whom Shall I Send?
Here I Am Lord, Is It I, Lord?
I Have Heard You Calling In The Night.
I Will Go Lord, If You Lead Me.
I Will Hold Your People In My Heart.
I, The Lord Of Snow And Rain,
I Have Borne My People’s Pain.
I Have Wept For Love Of Them, They Turn Away.
I Will Break Their Hearts Of Stone,
Give Them Hearts For Love Alone.
I Will Speak My Word To Them
Whom Shall I Send?
Here I Am Lord, Is It I, Lord?
I Have Heard You Calling In The Night.
I Will Go Lord, If You Lead Me.
I Will Hold Your People In My Heart.
I, The Lord Of Wind And Flame
I Will Tend The Poor And Lame.
I Will Set A Feast For Them,
My Hand Will Save
Finest Bread I Will Provide,
Till Their Hearts Be Satisfied.
I Will Give My Life To Them,
Whom Shall I Send?
Here I Am Lord, Is It I, Lord?
I Have Heard You Calling In The Night.
I Will Go Lord, If You Lead Me.
I Will Hold Your People In My Heart.
Prayers of Intercession
Our Holy God, Creator of all things, you have revealed yourself as the One true God, and through your Holy Scriptures, you have preserved for us the story of your eternal love and grace for humanity through the ages. In these you have shown yourself to be the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three persons in One God.
Heavenly Father, in your wisdom and love you created the world, and made humanity in your image. You have sustained this world and provided for all life, and through the ages you have blessed us with your provision, protection, care, and nurturing presence.
Jesus, our King, God’s Son, you have showered us with God’s grace and favor, and freed us from the tyranny of the evil one, and his desire to dominate the world and our very lives through the machinations of our sinful human hearts—our rebellion and our idolatry. You sacrificed your own life as “the Lamb that was slain” to free us from the tyranny of sin, death and the devil. You have not only freed us by your shed blood on the cross, but you have brought us into your Kingdom of grace and truth, and in your resurrection from the dead you have ushered your people into a new age of restoration and given us eternal life.
Holy Spirit, you are our nurturer and comforter. You bring truth and wisdom into our hearts and minds, and convict us when we stray from God’s way. You give strength and power to live as God’s people and to bear witness to the truth of Christ’s Way, his death for us, and his victory over the grave. You give us the capacity to love, forgive, and bear fruit in our lives that brings healing in this world and glory and honor to the Triune God.
On this Trinity Sunday, we ask that you would be glorified in us and in the lives of your people, Christ’s church all over the world, and that your salvation in him would be witnessed to by your people. May we bear the glory of your true presence within us, and may your grace, truth, and love be overflowing from our lips and our daily lives in the communities in which we live.
We pray that your voice would be heard through your own people throughout this nation and this world, that your truth would resound and abound, and give life and light. We pray against the lies of the enemy, lies that are bent on sowing confusion, hatred, and chaos in this God’s world. Though we know that for a time the evil one will be unshackled and “go out to deceive the nations” (Rev. 20:7-10) sowing chaos, discord, and hatred, we pray that we your people would stand firm in your truth and love. We pray that your light and glory would shine through us.
We also pray for your healing presence in our world, for those who are suffering the effects of disease, poverty, injustice, and war.
We lift up the many counties in the world that are currently struggling through new waves of the COVID pandemic. We pray for the government leaders in this nation and throughout the world who have a role to protect their people during this health crisis. Give them wisdom and the will to do what is necessary for the good of their people. We pray that vaccines and therapeutic treatments would become available to all, and that in places where those are not available, your special protection would abound. We also pray for special strength for the frontline healthcare workers whose efforts have helped so many, but who have been overwhelmed in many cases with great loss and trauma. Bring special strength and comfort to them as they work to bring healing and needed care. Please also give wisdom to the common people to be wise in our daily activities to prevent further spread of the virus.
We ask that you would protect and sustain the health of our church members and their families, wherever they may be. We also lift up those who we know to be injured or sick in body, mind, and soul that your healing presence and power in our Lord Jesus would touch each one…
Lord we thank you for the cease fire in the nation of Israel and that both sides would hold to their commitments to peace. We ask for justice where there has been injustice, that seeds of strife would not be able to grow back into violence, and that the desire for retribution and revenge would fade.
Lord we lift up the nations of Myanmar, Ethiopia, and other places where strife, violence, and injustice, have disrupted and touched the lives of many. Lord we lift up other situations we know about where neglect, injustice, sin and discord have hurt people we know and their families, asking you to bring comfort and restoration, and that you would heal and meet the needs of those experiencing pain and brokenness...
We continue to pray for Terry Muir, who is gravely ill and for his wife Phouang and young son, James. We also remember his sons and daughter back in the UK. We pray for Patrick, Andrew and Caireen. May your blessing and protection be upon them all and may they recognise and trust in the hope of glory made known in Jesus.
We ask Lord that along with the Prophet Isaiah, and Christ’s apostles, that you would send us to bring your words of life to those in darkness. Give us the words to say for each situation and person we meet. And though we know that your calling to be your representative may mean we suffer along with our Savior Jesus, may that suffering bring glory to you and to our Shepherd/Lamb. Strengthen your church for the works of service and love you have prepared for her to carry out.
And in all this, we set our hope on you and trust you to bring the renewal of all things that you have promised in King Jesus our Savior. Come, Lord, quickly and restore all things.
It’s in the name of Jesus, your Son, our Messiah we pray.
Amen
fill you with awe and wonder;
may the God whom even seraphs worshipped,
guide you in the ways of holiness;
may the God who asks “who will go?”,
inspire you to cry, like the prophet:
“Here am I; send me!”
And, may the God who calls,
send you to live into your calling,
and bless you on your way,
now, and forever.
